Accuracy

Accuracy can be described in different ways by tool manufacturers:

1. As a percentage, e.g. ‘1% Accuracy'.
This is normally assumed to be ±1% of Full Scale. For example, a device reading from 40-200 N.m with an accuracy of ±1% will have a possible error margin of ±2 N.m. This is a significantly greater percentage at the lower end of the range - at 40 N.m, 2 N.m represents ±5% accuracy and not ±1% as originally perceived.

2. As a number of graduations, e.g. ‘Accuracy, ±1 graduation'. Obviously at the bottom of the range, one graduation represents 100% possible error. Percentage error decreases higher up the range.

3. As a percentage and graduations, e.g. ‘Accuracy, ±1%, ±1 graduation'. A combination of methods 1 and 2, with the resultant inaccuracy!

4. As a percentage of reading, e.g. ‘Accuracy, ±3% of reading'. Initially this may appear to be less accurate than claims of ±1%. However, note the ‘of reading' statement! Of reading means exactly that. Torqueleader use this method of guaranteed accuracy throughout the scaled range of their tools and analysers.

ISO 6789:2003

The majority of equipment sold by Torqueleader conforms to the principal requirements of International Standard ISO 6789:2003  These Standards state:

  • The effective working range of a tool is from 20% to 100% of its maximum torque value
  • The accuracy requirements for Torque Screwdrivers is ±6% of reading and for Torque Wrenches is ±4% of reading, or ± 6% for Wrenches below 10 N.m
  • The maximum torque value for each Square Drive size
  • An overload ability of 125% of maximum torque capacity
  • A Calibration life of 5000 cycles
  • Test and measuring procedures, at 23° ±5°C
  • The maximum permissible uncertainty of measurement of the calibration device shall be ±1% of the indicated vaule
  • Scale and marking requirements

UKAS Accredited Calibration

Torqueleader is able to offer customers the services of a UKAS Accredited Calibration Laboratory (No: 0632).

Accreditation range: Hand Torque Tools from 0.14 to 1000 N.m to ISO 6789:2003

The accredited services offered include:

  • Calibration of new Torqueleader tools
  • Calibration of Torqueleader tools returned for re-calibration, repair or reconditioning
  • Calibration of tools from other manufacturers
  • Subject to inspection and acceptance

UKAS Certification

Torqueleader's already stringent testing and calibration procedures are performed using equipment traceable through UKAS (the United Kingdom Accreditation Service) accredited laboratories.

For customers who require a full UKAS certificate with their tools, this can be provided at an extra cost.
