Torqueleader - suppliers of tools to the World’s Motor Industries

Engineers from MHH Engineering – manufacturers of the Torqueleader range of torque tools, have recently been working with Covpress – suppliers and manufacturers of pressed parts to the motor industry, to ensure the integrity of their sub-assemblies.

After manufacture the pressure vessels are fitted with gland nuts, which have to be guaranteed leak-proof before the completed assembly is pressure tested. Covpress specify a tightening torque for the gland nuts and require that not only is a torque wrench used for the tightening procedure, to guarantee that the specified torque is applied, but also insist that the tightening process is automatically verified on completion.

To do this Covpress have designed and built semi-automatic assembly cells in which Torqueleader TSN 55 Switch tools are used to tighten the gland nuts. When the specified torque is reached, the TSN “slips” free (to prevent over-tightening) before re-setting, but also the switch within the TSN wrench completes an electrical circuit signifying correct tightening to a production line control system.

Quite simply – the Torqueleader torque wrench not only guarantees the correct tightness of the screwed fittings but also controls the tightening process. Once the TSN wrench confirms that tightening is successfully completed a pressure test of the completed assembly is undertaken and a Certificate automatically produced. This is adhered to the vessel to prove to the customer, the integrity of the vehicle’s sub-assembly.
